My first show since returning from the UK. Big up to Katakah, Bleak and Sam G for holding down while I was away. Tried to get through a few different styles. Dubby to Deep to Purple to Funky to a few of the latest Mungos Dancehall rhythms at the end. Thanks to all who tuned in, check the comments link for some of the feedback recieved. The Beats People Movement crew are busy working on a new project set to launch in May. For this reason we are taking a short break from promoting our regular club nights and international DJ tours. Plenty of hard work is going in to this one, everyone involved is looking forward to the big launch in a few weeks time..

This years iNation Festival is happening this weekend at Whitecliffs around 45 mins from Christchurch City. Headlined by Tiki and full live band it is set to be a goody. Dubstep and Jungle tings a gwarn at the Subtle Zone where I will be making an appearance upon the host n toast. Big!

Quoted “THE OUTDOOR PARTY OF THE YEAR” (NZ Musician Magazine) I.Nation 2008 attracted festival goers from all over NZ and Australia who witnessed one of Shapeshifter’s most mind blowing performances to date. This year the legendary valley of Whitecliffs just 45mins west of Christchurch will once again host some of Aotearoa’s finest musical talent spread over two days with two zones, there will be camping, café and bar facilities so you can enjoy the full outdoor festival experience.

Beats People Movement are proud to bring you the second installation of a clubnight that is dear to our hearts. A true celebration of BASS music culture in its many forms.

DJs have been encouraged to bring selections spanning Dub, Roots, Dubstep, Jungle, Dancehall, Garage, Old School Hip Hop, Miami Bass, W.H.Y as long as it is BASS music.

One of the selectors Morning Steppa for instance letting us know he will be playing a set of “Digi Dub, Roots, Dancehall, Dub Hop, Dubstep and some good ol 90’s DnB mashed into one.”

Upstairs will be DJ Dubhead, Sandy Bay Social Club (represented by Dalai and Ed G), Morning Steppa, 00 Afro and Lady Jane. Downstairs will be the resident Dubstep Alliance DJs OoGuN, Seeka, Manaia Toa, Supper Club resident Jason George and a little later some propa jump around DnB vibes from the Upseta.

We did one of these in early 2007 and it went off, biggup to Evoke by Design for the artwork !

Cotti Bio..

Richard Bowes, aka Cotti is a producer, DJ, and MC hailing from Brixton, South London. As well as the co-founder (along with partner Cluekid) of ‘-30 Records’, he also manages his own imprint, ‘Bassface Recordings’.

Cotti has been immersed in the London Scene from a young age, initially writing lyrics & Dj-ing, then eventually moving through and focusing on vocalist & music production.

Throughout 2007 Cotti became one of the movements most sought after DJ/producers, with his tracks ‘Sensi Dub’ & ‘I Don’t Give a Dub’ recorded as the biggest selling dubstep releases of 2007, not too mention ‘The Legacy’, and ‘Mozart 3000′ becoming bass rider anthems in their own right. The first half of 2008 has seen his productions gain support from all the big name DJ’s on the circuit. Thanks to the encouragement of Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC Radio 1, Cotti’s productions ‘Let Go Mi Shirt’ & ‘The Search’ both Breezeblock Bombs, eventually had full releases on Soul Jazz Recordings. 2008 has also seen the release of the long awaited collaboration with Doctor, namely ‘Calm Down’, a track that has pushed the creative boundaries of the sound, with its original vocal production & the technique of blending dubstep, grime, dub, and dancehall into a single riddim.

At present Cotti is Dj-ing at pioneering London club FWD and the almighty DMZ parties on regular rotation. His sets have been witnessed all over Europe & the United States and without doubt are straight up to date with a quality selection of dubs from the finest producers. Cotti’s proposed collaborations across musical genres, along with the signing of big name vocalists are set to move Bassface & -30 Recordings to a fertile musical ground that’s a reflection of Cotti as an artist, A&R ear, and all round bass addict.

Hey a cupley nights on this Friday that are defo worth checking.. Fucking Yardcore in its second mutation and now at the Rising Sun will feature some Dancehall goodness early in the night from Jah Praise then a feature Jungle and Tech Step mashup from Niche and Manaia Toa before easing ya through with some fresh Dubstep from Phil O (among other selectors). The regular drumandbass.co.nz monthly night at Coherant on K’Rd was meant to feature a set a liquid goodness from the one like DJ Kritical this month but due the sad circumstance of him taking his own life just two weeks ago it will now feature a studio mix of his in reverence before the headline set from Christchurch’s Urban Notion crew. I’m sure there will be a big massive in attendance to see the one like Kritical out in style. Looking ahead there is the Kiwiburn festival (inspired by the legendary Burning Man held in Nevada, USA) upcoming February 1st-4th at Whakamaru Domain, Mangakino and the Splore bi-annual festival upcoming February 8-10th at Tapapakanga Regional Park, Orere.
