Running on the first Thursday of the month August thru November to make room for our special international promotions.

This month we have a special line up to celbrate the forthcoming release of OoGuN Vs. OSC ‘Version 4 Version’  on the celebrated WAR label run by Nick Argon.

WAR is a

Dubstep label concentrating on unauthorized remixes of mainly reggae/dub songs. All releases are vinyl-only and limited to a one-time press of 500 copies per title.

DRUNK ELEPHANT SOUND | DUBSTEP ALLIANCE | BASE FM

Nigerian DJ / Producer / Label Owner. Former London resident where he used to play on legendary early UK Internet pirate Radio station Interface as well as various clubs around the UK. He’s played everything from Afrobeat to Jungle to Detroit Techno (you want to see his collection of Underground Resistance 12’s). After moving to Auckland in 2006 he started the Drunk Elephant Sound System radio show on Base Fm (named after the realisation that Dubstep sounds like a pissed elephant wandering through a jungle). It’s also the name of the label he runs. He produces Dubstep as OoGuN, which means there’s always a fair sprinkling of exclusive dubs from NZ and overseas producers who he’s been playing swapsies with. Now pioneering a sound he calls “Dubhall” he’s also got more than a passing interest in music around the 130 bpm range. Oogun will soon be joining the ranks of Matty G, 6 Blocc, OSC and DJ Madd with a forthcoming 12 inch on the strictly limited WAR series of releases. WAR017 - OoGuN Vs. OSC ‘Version 4 Version’ is out soon.

Lowquid specialises in playing a variety of bass music sounds and its this approach that has seen him support a boatload of international Dubstep acts such as Silkie, Kode9, Cotti, Jakes, LD, Antiserum and Harmonic 313 as well as being frequent guest at the long running Wheel parties. He currently holds down a weekly residency at The Crib in Ponsonby, and a weekly radio show on KFm with Seeka (Saturday 6-8pm). His recent mixtape “CONNECT THE DOTS” is available for download via the Soundcloud link below, this best captures the variety of style and tempo that may feature among his sets.

Dubstyle Sessions resident Bleak aka AMIGA5HNDRD is a fastidious vinyl collector who aims to build well considered DJ sets that keep things innovative while remaining true to the bass music cause. Selection-wise he rolls out diverse, you can expect to hear releases from record labels Apple Pips, Aus Records, Brainmath, DMZ, Hyperdub, Night Slugs, Numbers, Ostgut Ton, Perlon, Soulja, Soul Jazz, Swamp81, Tectonic, Tempa et cetera.

Dubstyle Sessions resident Sam Noon has a clear focus on representing what’s good in underground bass music, this translates to a ever changing mix of Funky, House, and Dubstep influenced sounds from the scenes top labels. Playing an almost 100% vinyl selection is a rare thing these days but quality is something Sam feels passionately about. Put simply there’s never a dull moment when this girl’s behind the decks!

Big tings in the works from the DMZ camp. I was talking to Coki when he was here in October about whether there was a likely Digital Mystikz album in the works. I was under strict instructions not to let on that he and Mala were working on a full length debut. Seems safe to let the cat out of the bag now. Trust me this is going to be good. Foundation style.

Mala has revealed details of Digital Mystikz‘ first release 2010, and it’s a big one.

Return II Space will be released on 3×12? vinyl in May. Given the catalogue number is DMZLP001, it’s safe to call it an album – though whether it’s by Mala alone or with Coki, his partner in Digital Mystikz, is uncertain. The cover art is pictured above.

No tracklist has been made available as yet, but it seems obvious that Mala’s track ‘Return to Space’ will feature.

As a label and production enterprise, DMZ has been quiet of late, its last official 12? release being Coki’s 2008 offering ‘Triple Six’ / ‘Road Rage’.

Mala hasn’t recorded anything for the label since 2007’s ‘Lean Forward’, choosing instead to focus his energies on his Deep Medi Musik label, which also has an album-length release on the way in the form of Deep Medi Musik Vol. 2, the imprint’s second CD compilation which compiles past singles by Mala, Quest, Silkie and more.

We’ll update you with a tracklist and any additional info as soon as we have it.

Attendees of the Dubstep Alliance and Beats People Movement* promotions will know OoGuN’s sounds well. He has a bunch of digital releases on his burgeoning Drunk Elephnat Sound imprint and adds to that catalog with a remix of Dub Asylum’s Ba Ba Boom, a track from the 2008 EP of the same name. Dub Asylum is the alias of Auckland-based beat maker Peter McLennan aka Peter Mac.

Stinky Jim had this to say about the release:

Of articular and particular note this evening was Oogun giving Dub Asylum a right smack-up remix for the debut 7″ on Loopy Fruit Records. Props are properly dispensed to Messrs Mclenners and Oogoid for their work on this, it’s a scorcher. The 45 will be hitting shops on Monday the 7th but Conch will be copping ‘em from Friday, so NZers, show some love and support quality local tackle (internationalists not excluded neither…), check it out in the house of youtubular below), I’ve got absolutely no truck with music being bigged and upped on purely geographical stakes, but this would be getting a run or three on SG wherever it came from, top notch!
